Go Bananas is a banana ripeness scanning app published by Harnisch LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the app does and does not collect.
TL;DR
Go Bananas runs on your device. Photos you take to scan a banana are processed on the phone, never uploaded, and never leave it. We collect no personal data and have no account or login. The one thing that can leave your phone is an optional, anonymous ripeness correction, and only if you turn it on. Details below.
What we collect
By default, nothing. There is no account, no login, no analytics, and no advertising SDK. The single exception is the optional "Send anonymous corrections" setting, which is off unless you turn it on. See "Anonymous corrections" below for exactly what it sends.
What stays on your device
The app stores the following locally, accessible only to you:
- Scan history: the photo and computed ripeness stage for each banana you've scanned. You can clear this from the History tab at any time.
- Bunch state: the virtual "bunch" of bananas you've planted in the Bananas tab, including the family name you chose, environment selections (counter, fridge, etc.), and the bunch's lifecycle events.
- Notification preferences: if you opt into ripeness alerts for the bunch feature, the operating system holds a notification token locally to schedule "your banana is ripe" reminders. The token is not transmitted to us.
What we do NOT do
- We do not collect personal information (name, email, location, contact info).
- We do not upload your photos.
- We do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
- We do not share data with third parties.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
Permissions the app requests
- Camera: used to take photos of bananas in-app. Photos are processed on-device only.
- Photo library (optional): if you choose to analyze a photo you already have, the app reads it from your library locally. Photos are processed on-device only.
- Notifications (optional): used for local "your bunch is ripe" reminders. No remote push notifications are sent.
Anonymous corrections (optional, off by default)
The app can misjudge a banana's ripeness. If you turn on "Send anonymous corrections" in the You tab and then tap the stage a banana actually was on a result screen, the app sends that correction to us so we can tune the ripeness algorithm.
Each correction contains only:
- the ripeness stage the app predicted, and the stage you said it was;
- the hue value (a single number) the camera read;
- a rough confidence number, a test-mode flag, the app version, and a timestamp.
It does not include the photo, your name, your email, an account, a device identifier, or your location. There is no way for us to tie a correction back to you or your phone. The setting is off until you switch it on, and you can switch it off at any time.
Children
Go Bananas is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be noted at the top of this page and the updated date revised.
